This project by ESE junior Annie Hlady consists of three parts. Across the semester she inquired into a social studies topic not often taught in elementary schools: the Young Lords. After researching the topic, she created a website that 5th grade students could engage with. From there, she wrote a series of three 5th grade reading lessons to accompany the middle grades book called “The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano.” Her project concludes with a writing assignment she created for the students to demonstrate their understanding of both the text and the Young Lords.
