What They Don’t Teach You: A Comparative Analysis of Violent Crime Reports at Public and Private Universities
Emma Lindsay ’25, Sociology and English major

My research project examines the differences in violent crime reporting and public and private universities. I utilized data from the 2022 National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). My goal was to investigate which crimes are systematically underreported and if this phenomenon differs depending on institution type. I found that overwhelming campus crime reporting does not fully illustrate the rates of violent crimes at public and private universities.
