While many credit President John F. Kennedy with the creation of Camelot, a deeper look reveals that First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy played a much bigger role in the branding of both the United States and the Kennedy Administration. Becoming a fashion icon during her time in Washington, with the help of Hollywood designer Oleg Cassini, the First Lady and the ‘Jackie Look’ led America’s fight against communism on the cultural front, using her celebrity to “sell” Americanism to the world.
